Project: Arch. Andrea Bicego – Massimo Bigoni – Barbara Marelli - Cantù (CO)
Location: Cantù (CO)
Type: Renovation of residence for disabled people
For the Abilitiamo Autismo ODV association, we carried out the redevelopment of Cascina Cristina, a historic 19th-century Lombard farmhouse located in Cantù. The project, designed by architects Andrea Bicego, Massimo Bigoni, and Barbara Marelli, transformed the building into a multifunctional hub dedicated to welcoming and supporting young people and adults with autism spectrum disorders.
The intervention included the conservation restoration of the existing structure, aiming to preserve its original architectural features while integrating modern construction solutions to ensure functionality, safety, and comfort. The spaces were designed to promote autonomy and social inclusion for the residents, featuring residential areas, workshops, communal spaces, and support services.
Cascina Cristina stands as an example of how architecture can contribute to social well-being, offering a welcoming and functional environment tailored to the specific needs of the autistic community and their families. We are deeply proud to have contributed to such a socially and territorially valuable project, as highlighted by Lombardia Notizie and the Municipality of Cantù.
